Wine Buying Is Easy When You Listen To The Experts

By John French / October 19, 2016

Mentioning wine may invoke feelings of good food, relaxation and the greater things in life. If you don’t drink often, knowing how to enjoy a good glass of wine is still useful. It can come in handy to help you cook, show off your knowledge to your wine-loving friends, and much more.

You need to be friends with your local wine store. This is particularly important as each shop is different. Every place has its own unique way of doing business, from the selection to the prices. If you are just getting started in drinking wine, going to a store with a bunch of expensive bottles may not be for you. Think about this when you are considering your next wine purchase.

Protect your wine’s flavor with proper storage. Wines can be damaged by extremes in heat or cold, adversely affecting the flavor. Let these wines develop their flavors by storing them at about 50 or so degrees. If you have a cool basement, it is perfect for storing wine. You can also purchase a wine refrigerator for this purpose.

When purchasing wine, think about your tastes and preferences. You might be told that one wine is better than the one you like by a professional wine taster, but that won’t make it taste better. If a less expensive variety tickles your fancy, then choose that wine with glee! The point is enjoying your glass of wine.

It’s a wise idea to make sure that you serve all wines at the correct temperature. Red wines are best when served at approximately 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep your red wine around 58° so that it can warm to the perfect 60° in your glass. White wine is best served at a temperature of 47 degrees. Warm whites taste dull.

Very few people are allergic to sulfites, so don’t be overly concerned about the warning labels on most wine bottles. All wines contain sulfites, but only American distributors have to include a warning on the label. Sulfites have the ability to trigger allergies in some, though if you have never had a problem with them, you need not worry.

As you can see, there are many benefits to knowing about wine. Consuming and enjoying wine are not the only issues. With understanding comes far greater enjoyment. Use what you’ve learned here, and try it out for yourself.
